incoming students attend one of our three Sprog Orientation events. At Sprog, you will register for classes, learn more about Southwestern's unique curriculum, connect with your peers, and accomplish other to-do items, which will provide for a better transition to Southwestern.
If you are unable to attend one of the three Sprog Orientation events due to unavoidable conflicts, please complete this form to provide information that will help us determine an alternative process to assist you with registering for fall courses. Exceptions are approved on a case-by-case basis.

First-Year Seminar (FYS) Preferences
The FYS is a required, four-credit course taken during your first semester. You will meet with your FYS classmates and instructor for 12 hours during Welcome Week, which begins on Monday, August 21. Your FYS will be your first exposure to Southwestern's Paideia philosophy of making connections. With each seminar averaging up to 18 students, your FYS faculty member will guide you as you begin to practice an education that arcs over the whole course of your college experience and across the Southwestern curriculum, connecting the questions and perspectives you encounter and the skills you develop to each other and to the world.

Advanced-Entry Seminar (AES) Preferences
The Advanced-Entry Seminar (AES) at Southwestern University helps you practice an education that arcs over your SU experience and across the curriculum. That education connects the questions and perspectives you encounter as well as the skills you develop to each other and to the world. Taken during your first semester as a four-credit graded course, AES is a concurrent rather than preliminary experience. It focuses on topics that help you think about what you are learning in your other classes as well as your whole education. It is your first exposure to Paideia—Southwestern’s distinctive interdisciplinary approach to integrating curricular and co-curricular experiences.
